The first thing that i did was to calculate his body BMI.
BMI (body mass index) is a convinent rule of thumb used to broadly categorize a person as underweight, normal weight , overweight, or obese based on tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) and height. That categorization is the subject of some debate about where on the BMI scale the dividing lines between categories should be placed. commonly accepted BMI ranges are uderweight (under 18.5 Kg/m2, normal weight (18.5 to 25), overweight (25 to 30), or obese (over 30).
You can also find your BMI with this simple formula.
BMI= 1.3 * Mass
(kg)/Height2.5 (m)
Finding out
your BMI will help you to know that in which category you are falling and what
according to your height your weight must be. Here is the chart which will help
you to get the weight estimation according to your weight.
Calorie
A calorie is
a unit of energy. In nutrition, calories refer to the energy people get from
the food and drink they consume, and the energy they use in physical activity. Calories are
listed in the nutritional information on all food packaging. Many weight gain
or loss programs center on the intake of calories.
Daily requirement
The United States
government states that the average man needs 2,700 kcal per day and the average
woman needs 2,200 kcal per day. Not everybody needs the same number of calories
each day. People have different metabolisms that burn energy at different
rates, and some people have more active lifestyles than others.
The recommended intake of
calories per day depends on several factors, including:
1 overall general health
2 physical activity demands
3 sex
4 weight
5 height
6 body shape
The human body needs
calories to survive. Without energy, the cells in the body would die, the heart
and lungs would stop, and the organs would not be able to carry out the basic
processes needed for living. People absorb this energy from food and drink. If
people consumed only the number of calories needed every day, they would probably
have healthy lives. Calorie consumption that is too low or too high will
eventually lead to health problems.
The number of calories in
food tells us how much potential energy they contain. It is not only calories
that are important, but also the substance from which the calories are taken.
Below are the calorific
values of three main components of food:
1 g of carbohydrates
contains 4 kcal
1 g of protein contains 4
kcal
1 g of fat contains 9
kcal
How to check daliy calorie requirement.
Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:
For men:
BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A + 5
For women:
BMR = 10W + 6.25H - 5A – 161
where:
W is body weight in kg
H is body height in cm
A is age.
H is body height in cm
A is age.
